Summer’s Last Gasp

As I sit in the gallery today I know Summer is still here with the hot, humid temperatures and all the garden plants thriving. But last week we saw and felt the first signs that Fall is around the corner. A tree right outside of the studio has started the inevitable march towards its showy color with a few leaves already donning their reds and golds. And there were a couple of evenings that we considered a fire in the fireplace but decided that would have just been plain crazy! So here we are again in the grip of Summer, as it asserts its right to hang on for a few more weeks. That’s OK since it keeps us working hard in the studio. Once the Fall weather really hits it is hard not grab the hiking boots, jump on the trails and spend all day playing in the cool, crisp New England air.

Daniel has been very busy making one piece after another as we try to complete our orders in a reasonable time frame. This buffet recently found its home in New York City. A beautiful, graceful design, this buffet is made from solid cherry with wonderful accent details like the curved apron and the applied bead around the doors, drawers and apron. As I told the new owners of this stunning piece – I almost kept it for myself!

Right now Daniel is working on a Big Leaf Maple Dining Table that will finish out at 90″ long by approximately 48″ wide depending on the variance in the natural edge. Two beautiful slabs consecutively cut will be brought together to make the gorgeous top. A modified trestle base will finish off the table. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for photos of the table.

Our studio dog, Marley has spent her Summer trying to find anywhere there might be cool air. When your coat is made for winters in Newfoundland, summers in Connecticut can be brutal. Thankfully the studio and gallery both got air conditioning a few months ago so she has been able to get in her mandatory 18 hours of sleep a day! But she is a faithful companion and keeps me company on our walk each morning no matter what the weather.

In the coming weeks Daniel and I will be off on deliveries to New Hampshire, Maryland, Washington DC and New York City but will still have many days in the studio and gallery. Stop by for a visit if you are in the area!
